The Cornell Cooperative Extension in collaboration with WP Community Schools and the Food and Health Network present Grown Up and Me: The group will prepare an easy recipe together while learning about eating a balanced diet, reading nutrition facts labels, unit pricing, planning meals on a budget, and ways to increase our family's physical activity. Kids can learn safe food preparation skills and develop positive eating behaviors.

Our Early Eagles program is hosting a Storytime on Monday, February 13th from 9-10:30 AM at the CEA. This event will be for babies, toddlers, and preschool age children who are not currently in UPK programming. We will provide a Storytime with crafts and activities, breakfast foods, and free books. Today our CEA Students had a Kickoff Event for PARP! During this month the theme will be “Reading is Sweet” and each grade will be represented by a candy/color. UPK 4 - Orange Lollipop, Kindergarten - Green Gumdrop, First Grade - Red Licorice, Second Grade - Yellow Hard Candy, Third Grade- Blue Gummy Bear. The goal for each student is to read at least 15 minutes for 5 days each week during the program. This should not include reading required for school. Reading logs should be submitted on each Sunday evening. The top three classes in each grade will be recognized weekly and at the end of PARP the winning classes in each grade will receive a special reward. The top three students in each grade will also receive recognition of their outstanding accomplishment! For more information visit our website!

The Whitney Point Community Schools will be hosting a hands-on workshop for parents and caregivers of UPK and CEA students on Monday, January 30th from 5:30- 7:00 PM. There will be a brief presentation with ideas for establishing family routines, reading times, chore charts, reward charts, and other important routines for home. A large portion of the time together will be spent brainstorming and then creating a visual to take home.
Pizza and salad will be provided for dinner.

CEA held a Parent Engagement Day to show COMPASSION (our Character Education word for December). Each grade level made a special craft to send to someone or someplace (Veteran's home, assisted living home, senior center etc.) Second Graders at CEA made many cards for children who cannot go home for the holidays! These cards will be sent to a children's hospital to cheer them up!

Third Graders from the CEA were treated to a performance of 'L'enfant et les Sortileges' (The Child and the Enchantments) at Binghamton University! Earlier this week, actors from the production visited the school to talk to our students about their show! BRAVO to our third graders for representing WPCS so well!

Mrs. Kolb’s first grade class and Mrs. Cron’s Pre-K class celebrated Thanksgiving together on Tuesday. They read a Thanksgiving story, made Turkey hats, danced like turkeys, made snacks for each other and talked about being thankful and giving to others!

This week, our third-grade students learned about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and the engineering behind balloon floats. They were challenged to create their own float design with a device that could hold up the float. Here are the results!
