Whitney Point CSD is pleased to be one of the beneficiaries of the USDA-NIFA Food and Ag Service-Learning Program Grant awarded to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County, in partnership with Broome-Tioga BOCES School Nutrition Services and Food and Health Network (FaHN), a program of the Rural Health Network of South Central New York. The grant will provide significant support to WPCSD in its efforts to increase farm to school initiatives. The district will receive $10,000 to support essential garden materials, which will go toward integrating garden knowledge into the school curricula.
School gardens function as interactive educational environments, allowing students to explore the joy of cultivating their own produce while enhancing the knowledge of food systems, nutrition and sustainability.
WPCSD will also receive specialized training from New York State Ag in the Classroom, which will focus on the effective use of growing towers and racks.
The district looks forward to the development and growth of the farm to school program.
